Outdoor cinema: 'The Imitation Game'

The screening will be staged on Thursday, 16 July, at 22:00, in the Museum Courtyard

On Thursday 16 July, the Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (mNACTEC) is organising an open-air cinema screening at 22:00 hours, featuring the film The Imitation Game, on the Museum's historic courtyard.

The mNACTEC will be open from 21:00 hours, with a bar service in the courtyard. Tickets cost 2 euros, with prior booking available via the website  www.mnactec.cat or by sending an email to activitats.mnactec@gencat.cat.

The Imitation Game (Morten Tyldum, 2014) won the 2014 Oscar for best adapted screenplay, and is a biopic about the British mathematician Alan Turing, famous for deciphering the secret Nazi codes contained within the Enigma machine, a decisive event in the course of the Second World War (1939-1945) on behalf of the Allied cause. Far from being admired as a hero, Turing was charged and tried for his homosexuality in 1952.

On the night of the screening, the Museum lobby will have on display a replica of the Enigma machine that is normally housed in the exhibition "The Computer Enigma" at the mNACTEC. The Enigma machine was initially used to send messages in the commercial and industrial sphere, but was soon applied to a military context, becoming one of the key encryption machines of the Second World War.
