Catalonia on the European Route of Industrial Heritage

A total of 19 museums and heritage sites within the Territorial Structure of the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia (MNACTEC) have been added as a new regional route on the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH).

The ERIH was set up in the late 1990s with the aim of promoting industrial tourism and culture in former industrial regions. It is now the largest network in the world dedicated to protecting and promoting our industrial legacy and culture. The network was in 2019 recognised by the Council of Europe as a European Cultural Route, linking up the most significant reference points in European industrialisation. The ERIH is a network of the tourist information covering the most notable European industrial heritage sites, landmarks and museums open to the public.

This ERIH network is made up of more than 2,200 sites of interest in 51 European countries. These locations serve to explain Europe's industrial history, and are open to tourists and visitors. Of these 2,200 industrial sites, just 112 have been given the status of Anchor Points. The Anchor Points are the backbone of the ERIH network, representing sites of outstanding interest in terms of industrial heritage, which also offer an innovative and high-quality visitor experience.

Along with the 19 museums of the MNACTEC Structure added to the ERIH as a new regional route, the National Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia has also joined the network as an Anchor Point.
