A look at the history of the typewriter

The invention of the typewriter in the late 19th century brought about the mechanization of personal script, which until then had been practically untouched by technological advances. In the 1880s, the use of the typewriter went beyond the personal sphere and took up its definitive place in the professional world, contributing decisively to women’s access to the labour market.

The typewriter cannot be extricated from 20th-century uses and customs, and its technological legacy is still with us today through new writing devices.
